She must run, fight, and hide before her body shuts down
Synopsis
A seasoned killer injects a grieving woman with a paralyzing agent. Actor Finn Wittrick, who plays the serial killer in this film, is a prime candidate to also play serial killer Patrick Bateman in the American Psycho remake. She runs back and forth between scenes wearing running shoes and hiking boots.
However, once there, Richard reveals himself to be a serial killer and kidnaps Iris, knocking her unconscious
I Am Not YoursWritten by John Madara, Dave White (as David Ernest White)Played by Deep Sea Diver with Natalie Closner. Iris (Kelsey Asbille) is a young woman grieving the death of her young son in an accidental fall during a family camping trip. Rising early and without warning her husband, Iris heads to her son’s memorial in the park with the intention of jumping off the same cliff, but is stopped by a date with a seemingly well-meaning stranger named Richard (Finn Wittrock) who tells her about his own experience of loss with his girlfriend Chloe, prompting the two of them to return to their cars together.
The film was announced in 2022 with a script by Schindler’s Intruders writers T
Using a Swiss Army knife, Iris manages to get Richard to escape, but Richard informs her that he has injected her with a paralyzing agent that will spread throughout her system over the next 20 minutes, rendering her completely immobile. Don’t Move is the new Netflix thriller produced by Sam Raimi and directed by Adam Schindler and Brian Netto, who are no strangers to working with Raimi, having directed Grey Cloud Island (Minnesota) for Raimi’s Quibi anthology series 50 States of Fright as well as collaborating on their own solo projects like Netto’s Delivery: The Beast Within and Schindler’s Intruders. Don’t Move doesn’t reinvent the wheel when it comes to the cat-and-mouse thriller, but it does use the format effectively to generate palpable tension through fast-paced, efficient direction and an engaging heroine and villain. If I had to compare Don’t Move to anything, I would probably say the best comparison is a serial killer version of the 2005 film Red Eye. Just as that film was built around the tension and chemistry between Rachel McAdams and Cillian Murphy, a similar effect is achieved between Asbille and Wittrock.
Kelsey Asbille does a good job of playing a grieving mother who feels trapped by the world after the death of her son and this is well integrated into her struggle for survival that gives her an arc to be able to live again
On the other side, we have Finn Wittrock (who I mostly know from season 4 of American Horror Story before I stopped watching) who is very good as the man who calls himself “Richard” whose handsomeness and charismatic charm contrasts nicely with the darker nature that is revealed and creates a terrifying character who can bend and twist reality on the fly to achieve his ends. In terms of exploiting a feature film from the central premise of a paralyzed character, I admit I was more than a little skeptical because while it’s a terrifying idea, it’s incredibly difficult to stretch it to feature length, especially when it’s intentionally limited (like 2007’s Awake which went into inexplicable territory in its use of anesthesia awareness). Despite the inherent challenges of working with such a concept, Cimfel and White’s script does a good job of creating high-concept storylines that inhabit just enough believability (however implausible) that we get some very memorable sequences in which Iris needs to communicate in ways other than words to get help because she’s only inches out of reach.
