Ben Dalton: Why are you doing this to us?
Synopsis
A family is invited to spend an entire weekend in a secluded home in the countryside, but as the weekend progresses, they realize that the family that invited them has a dark side.. James McAvoy and Mackenzie Davis share what elements of their characters they find most intriguing and compliment each other as they talk about their different approaches to the craft.. The story is inspired by the experiences of Christian Tafdrup, the director of the original Danish Speak No Evil (2022), who befriended a Dutch couple while on vacation in Tuscany with his wife. Although the Dutch were somewhat socially awkward, both couples got along very well, and after returning home, Tafdrup received an invitation from a Dutch family to come to Holland. He thought for a moment, but decided that it would be weird for him to stay with people he didn’t really know; his story for the film came about when he unleashed his darkest fantasies about what might have happened if he had accepted (though he claims the original Dutch couple never gave off bad vibes). In this remake, the nationalities of the two families are changed to American and British.. In the bathroom, while washing his eye, he has a subconjunctival hemorrhage in his left eye, in the next scene, his eyes are perfectly clear..

No pun intended – if you’ve seen the European original (which isn’t even 2 years old), you might understand what I’m trying to say. Watching this, it probably makes sense that you haven’t seen it – one might think! Yet, as you watch this (and it seems to mostly stick to the blueprint), this movie seems to be trying to "correct" things some people didn’t like in the original … a son is one of those things …

illness can be hard to deal with … your situation makes you lose passion … Not here – and that elevates the film. The same goes for James McAvoy … he really is the heart of the film. His performance is subtle and brilliant at the same time. I don’t remember every nitty-gritty aspect of the original and I don’t want to offend the original players …
for better or for worse!
so let’s just say he’s great in this. The acting and the script as a whole work great, with some extra twists and turns … . even if the adjustments don’t seem that significant at first … but in the end (literally) we get something different … I like it – 1) because it’s different from the original and 2) because it suits the movie and the characters it offers more! I was skeptical, but this is just as good as the original …
for different reasons!
