Lela works with her mother Siti as a dishwasher before the funeral
Synopsis
Lela, an undertaker, struggles to uncover the truth behind her mother’s mysterious death while haunted by ghosts and weighed down by untold secrets. Lela is reluctant to continue this family profession, while her brother takes on another job.
When one of Siti’s friends dies mysteriously, it disturbs her
This is followed by Siti’s death, which shocks Lela and she realizes that these mysterious deaths were actually murders. As he decides to investigate, another lady dies and they all belong to his mother’s group of friends.
Whether he manages to save the village forms the rest of the story
As the families refuse to let the police get involved, Lela takes it upon herself to gather the evidence to prove these deaths as murders and put an end to them. The film’s main strength lies in its use of its female characters, and the defining moment of the film is the rumor they spread, which immediately elevated the story.
The flashback is only brief and we never fully learn Nur’s story
The supernatural angle aside, the occasional jump scares keep the narrative grounded, and keeping the police away felt deliberate. The performances were pretty good and I wish there was more to these women.
Corpse Washer is a decent watch, helped by a good performance from the lead actress
It probably would have made the movie more generic with the good-evil angle, but at least it would have answered the main question, rather than leaving it unanswered.
